Challenge #5 – Misunderstanding
A big threat to conservation is that people do not understand the importance of protecting wildlife and their habitat. It is also important to make sure that people understand the benefits they receive from conservation. For example, making sure people understand that they have benefited from livelihood schemes as a result of conservation work – if people see they get benefits from conservation, they will support it.
Solution #5 – Education
Teaching people about the importance of conservation creates a wide range of benefits for conservation. The more people understand that wildlife and their habitat are important and worth protecting, the more they will support conservation work. And the more that local communities see the benefits of conservation, the more they will help to protect wildlife.
